It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Great Western Arcade with a week of special performances and events to celebrate the festive season. Running from Monday 21 – Saturday 26 November, Christmas at GWA will feature unique performances from 5 – 6pm each day (Mon – Thu), culminating with a Festive Family Fun Day on Saturday 26 November from 11am – 4pm.

HIghlights include a special performance of A Christmas Carol by Gerald Dickens (yes that Dickens), musical performances from local artists, a pop-up arts market and much more.

The week of early evening performances begins on Monday 21 November with classical crossover duo Il Destino who will be bringing warmth and humour to their performances of popular hits and classical favourites.

On Tuesday 22, Gerald Dickens will be performing a solo show of the well-loved tale A Christmas Carol in the Arcade from 5pm, a stone’s throw away from where his great, great Grandfather Charles Dickens gave his first reading of the classic at Birmingham Town Hall in 1853. Using his own adaptation of Dickens’ classic Christmas tale, Gerald plays over 30 characters using vocal and physical talents to bring each scene vividly to life. No booking necessary.

The Ageing Well Community Choir will be hosting a Christmas Carols Sing-Along on Wednesday 23. Visitors of all ages are welcome to come along and join in with lyric sheets provided.

On Thursday 24, GWA welcomes another wonderful live performer as Mabowunje Harrison Sings Christmas. ‘M’ will be performing all your seasonal favourites in the unique acoustic surroundings of the Arcade.

The week will culminate in a Festive Family Fun Day in the Arcade on Saturday 26, which will feature live musical performances from Birmingham Brass Band (1 – 2pm) and the award-winning Ocho Choir. There will also be further chances to hear Mabowunje Harrison, and the Ageing Well Community Choir.

Independents throughout the Arcade will be offering special products, tastings and seasonal treats, as well as a pop-up arts market from local artists, perfect for picking up those much needed gifts and Christmas cards.

Younger ones will have the opportunity to meet the enchanting Snow Queen, as well as Christmas craft activities and face painting.

Christmas at GWA runs from Monday 21 – 26 November. Entry to all events throughout the week is free. For more details go to https://greatwesternarcade.co.uk/christmas-at-gwa-2022 or visit the Arcade’s social channels below:
